What an adventure into Eastern Africa! To be present last year when Southern Sudanese people were registering to vote for their freedom, and this week to see some of their leadership from the county responsible to assure a peaceful transition to a free country has been incredible. With it has become the the challenge of growth, small though it be, yet visible in a short period.
We have been to two villages some distance of 40 plus miles by unpaved dirt road. The people here have been awesome, welcoming us into their area with singing and smiles. No doubt many have ever seen a white person before. They explained to us that God loves all people regardless of their skin color and calls us brothers and sisters in Christ.
Last evening we heard Pastor Jeffries, the indigenous leader of our mission effort, explain his burden for his people. He is faced with many challenges – people becoming more aware of what growth in their country may bring and the temptations that could accompany it. Spiritual needs are great among his people and there is a great need for discipleship and teaching the truth of God’s word.
Pastor Jeffries asked that we take seriously the challenge to pray for his people every day. Perhaps it is hard to understand a half world away. These people have little, and the hope of the Gospel is a pearl of great price for them. May we all since this “so God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace
and kindness towards us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:7
-John Triplett
